What we've done is attach two lavalier microphones to a dummy's head, at the ears, record a stereo files panned left and right respectively to the ears, and placed the head in our studio while we played. The result is a 3D perspective recording that when listened to back on headphones reproduces the "space" that we were playing in.
First experiment was a shining success, with some tweaking and more experimentation, we have the possibility of creating some really unique recordings that capture not only the space, but an excellent example of what its like to hear us live.
